The first target that beginning amateur astronomers turn their telescopes to is the Moon. Its an object that is easy to find, is regularly seen, and there are plenty of amazing features such as craters and mountain ranges to observe.
When the Moon’s phase reaches around full, it is really bright and can become uncomfortable to look at making it difficult to observe the Lunar details. Celestron’s green coloured Moon filter helps to reduce glare and increase contrast of our Moon making Lunar observation a more enjoyable experience with less “strain” and discomfort on our eye. The filter simply screws into the barrel of 1.25” eyepieces. It can also be attached to the nosepiece of a diagonal so that when you swap eyepieces you don’t have to remove and refit the filter.
We should also point out that this filter is not suitable for viewing the Sun.
The filters are inexpensive and can make a useful “first accessory” with your telescope. It is available to buy from ourselves or one of our Celestron dealers.
