If you have 1.25″ eyepieces but have upgraded to a telescope with a 2″ focuser, or have acquired a 2″ diagonal, you will need a 1.25″-to-2″ adaptor to allow you to use your existing eyepieces. Some diagonals and telescopes come with such adaptors, but the simplest type only use a locking screw (or screws) to keep your eyepiece secure, which can mar or damage the barrel or nosepiece. Furthermore the action of locking an eyepiece or camera in place can often cause a shift in the position of item causing it to be off-centre to the optical axis.
Celestron’s new 2″ to 1.25″ Twist-lock adaptor will keep your 1.25″ accessories secure and does so without marking the nosepiece barrel. The adaptor features their Twist-lock mechanism – simply insert your eyepiece and twist the (Celestron) orange knurled ring clockwise to lock and secure, and turn counter-clockwise to unlock and release. Apart from keeping the 1.25″ accessory in place, the adaptor will keep it centered in the adaptor itself which provides the best opto-mechanical alignment between the telescope and eyepiece/accessory.
The adaptor also features an integrated internal “lip”/barrel stop. When this adaptor is used with a 2″ diagonal, the lip prevents 1.25” accessories that may have long nosepiece barrels from damaging the diagonal’s mirror. The telescope end of the adaptor is threaded so you can use 2” mounted filters. This is a useful feature as it allows you to swap different eyepieces but keep the same filter in place.
This adaptor is included as standard as part of Celestron’s 2″ Dielectric mirror diagonal package.
All Celestron Twist-lock adaptor’s main mechanical parts are black anodised aluminium, with the large outer knurled Twist-lock ring which is anodised “Celestron orange” for it to be seen easier when in the dark.
These adaptors are due soon and we will let you know when stocks arrive.
