Over the last few weeks there has, finally (!), been some clear skies!
Some of us have had the chance to see the Geminid meteor shower, the Andromeda Galaxy and the magnificent Orion nebula. What we’ve also noticed as well is that its become very cold too (well it is winter!). Keep yourself warm whilst observing or imaging outside by wrapping up in layers – see for example this article in the BBC Sky at Night magazine.
Keeping your hands warm is important too – especially if you are changing eyepieces often, or using a printed atlas, where wearing gloves can be cumbersome. To help, Celestron offer their Elements ThermoTrek handwarmer.
ThermoTrek is a small (95mm x 45mm x 23mm approx) light (150g approx) unit that will easily fit in your pocket or palm of your hand.
The hand warmer has a 4400mAh battery that will give around 6 hours of continuous heat, at about 40-45c, to keep your hands toasty and warm. You can easily re-charge the handwarmer with the supplied USB cable with your PC/laptop or via a USB-AC mains charger. A soft carry pouch is also included for carrying/storing the ThermoTrek.
This is an ideal inexpensive accessory – that is also on special offer too – that helps make being outside on a cold night a little more comfortable. Also makes for an ideal present too! You can buy this direct from ourselves or one of our Celestron dealers.
