Celestron have just released a number of new products which will be coming shortly to our shores. Pricing and availability will be announced soon and these will be available from your local/favourite astronomy retailer.
2″ and 1.25″ Dielectric diagonal with twist lock
Celestron’s new 1.25″ and 2″ 90° diagonals feature diffraction limited BK7 mirrors, with a 58 layer dielectric coating and >99% reflectivity to ensure that the diagonal delivers as much light to the eyepiece, and does not affect the telescope’s overall optical performance. The 1.25″ diagonal features a 1.25″ push-fit nosepiece and is threaded to accept 1.25″ mounted filters. The 2″ model has a 2″ push fit barrel, which can also accept filters, but also comes with an SCT threaded connection adaptor too. Swapping between the 2″ and SCT telescope-side adaptors is simple – simply unscrew one adaptor and replace with the other.
Both diagonals feature twist-lock eyepiece holders, which are anodised in “Celestron orange” for better visibility in the dark. The 2″ model also includes a removable 1.25″ to 2″ adaptor which is also of the twist lock design. A twist-lock holder securely holds eyepieces (or other accessories) with a simple twist-to-lock motion, and it also centres the accessory in the diagonal, thus providing best opto-mechanical alignment between your telescope and what is inserted into the diagonal. Furthermore, both models have an internal integrated barrel stop that prevents long barrelled accessories from encountering and damaging the mirror.
Powertank Lithium LT
This is Celestron’s most compact (190.5mm x 101.6mm x 50.8mm), lightweight (0.63kg) and portable lithium-ion power pack to date for powering your telescope or other accessories. The PowerTank Lithium LT uses Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide [LiNiMnCoO2] or NMC battery technology, which delivers a steady charge over long periods and requires less maintenance than traditional sealed lead-acid batteries. Using a built-in voltage regulator the Powertank Lithium LT will deliver at least 11.8 volts for the vast majority of the battery’s operation, until the battery is depleted and then shuts off.
The unit will provide your telescope with up to ~8 hours of power at the proper voltage for optimum telescope performance. Powertank Lithium LT comes with a rapid charge USB port for fast-charging of electronic devices whilst in the field, a 2m power cable for connecting to Celestron telescopes, and a wide hook-and-loop strap for attaching the unit to a mount’s tripod leg so it is safely kept off the ground and out of the way.
Celestron 1.25″ Moon filter set
Our Moon is often the first celestial body that beginners turn their telescopes toward with an amazing terrain with a wide variety of features such as craters, valleys, mountains and more, to explore. However at certain times the Moon can be very bright even in small telescopes making it uncomfortable to observe. Moon filters can enhance and make Lunar viewing more comfortable and reduce eye fatigue by reducing the Moon’s brightness, improving contrast and making faint Lunar details easier to observe.
This Celestron Moon Filter Set contains four filters that are ideal to help you observe the Moon during its various phases.
- 13%, 25%, and 50% light transmission neutral density (ND) filters: These allow you to choose the perfect filter for your viewing conditions/Moon phase.
- Moon & Sky Glow filter: for high contrast views of the lunar surface and also helps enhances observation of deep sky objects from light polluted skies
Each glass filter is housed in an aluminium filter cell to provide a rigid, durable housing and each cell is threaded on the top and bottom for (filter) stacking. A plastic carrying case with Moon map and legend for identifying the popular lunar features is also included.
